Pakistan Sports Board Ups the Game: Medal-Winning Athletes to Receive Bigger Cash Rewards

In a major boost for sports in Pakistan, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has rolled out a revamped reward structure that promises significantly higher cash prizes for athletes bringing glory to the country on international platforms.

The new incentive scheme, unveiled during the 34th PSB Board meeting, reflects the government’s renewed commitment to uplifting sports and motivating athletes. As per the updated “Cash Award Policy,” Olympic gold medalists will now walk away with a hefty Rs30 million — a massive jump from the previous Rs10 million. Silver and bronze medalists won’t be left behind either, receiving Rs20 million and Rs10 million respectively.

But the generosity doesn’t stop at the Olympics. The policy extends its reach to other prestigious international competitions as well. Winners of gold at the Asian Games will now receive Rs15 million, while silver and bronze medalists will pocket Rs7 million and Rs5 million, respectively.

Athletes excelling at the Commonwealth Games will also benefit, with gold medalists set to receive Rs7.5 million in prize money. Even niche sports haven’t been overlooked for instance, the champion of the Asian Snooker Championship will be awarded Rs750,000.

Squash enthusiasts have something to cheer about too. The PSB has earmarked Rs10 million for Pakistani players who clinch victory at globally recognized tournaments like the British Open.

This strategic move is expected to not only recognize the efforts of Pakistan’s sportsmen and women but also ignite fresh ambition among emerging talent across the country.
