Marcus Morris Arrested in Florida on Fraud Charges: What We Know So Far

NBA veteran and free agent Marcus Morris has found himself in legal trouble again. Over the weekend, the former New York Knicks forward was arrested in Broward County, Florida, facing serious fraud charges.

The Arrest

While full details haven’t been disclosed yet, early reports suggest that Morris is being held without bond due to an out-of-state warrant related to a bad check. The news first broke via TMZ, but the story is still developing.

Not His First Legal Issue

This isn’t the first time Marcus Morris has had a brush with the law. Back in 2012, he was involved in an altercation at a bar where he allegedly punched a staff member while watching a basketball game. He later entered a diversion program.

In 2015, Morris and his twin brother Markieff faced aggravated assault charges following a fight, but those charges were eventually dropped. Former USC football player Gerald Bowman was reportedly involved in that incident too.

Who Is Marcus Morris?

At 35, Marcus Morris is no stranger to NBA fans. He played a key part of the 2019–20 season with the Knicks, averaging an impressive 19.6 points and 5.4 rebounds over 43 games. Afterward, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers as part of a multi-player deal involving Moe Harkless.

Over the years, Morris has played for several NBA teams, including the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, and most recently, the Cleveland Cavaliers. In fact, he even suited up during the 2024 playoffs, stepping in for an injury-plagued Cavs squad.

He briefly rejoined the Knicks in 2024 on a training camp contract but was released just two weeks later.

The Morris Legacy

His twin brother, Markieff Morris, also boasts a solid NBA career. Most recently, Markieff played for the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers, continuing their family's strong presence in professional basketball.

Final Thoughts

With the legal process just beginning, it’s unclear what the future holds for Marcus Morris. But one thing’s for sure — fans and teams alike will be watching this story closely in the coming weeks.
